“Next time you see someone being bullied or peer pressured, step up and be courageous. Do what Max Warburg would do and Step Up.”

Max Courage
Inspirational
The Courage Curriculum honors the life of Max Warburg, a courageous eleven year old who died of leukemia in 1991. Max’s ability to continue to enjoy life and his unwavering optimism in the face of such a formidable opponent continue to inspire students.
Empowering
The program empowers students to realize that their actions can be powerful agents of change.
Through reading, writing and discussion students discover, then recognize, the role of courage in the lives of the characters they read about; in the lives of those around them; as well as the utilization of courage in their own past, present and future.
Supportive
Over the past fifteen years The Courage Curriculum has impacted the lives of over 60,000 students and raised millions of dollars in revenue and in-kind donations for the Boston Public Schools. We have engaged thousands of volunteers and worked to build a bond within the community that enables students to learn that their actions - no matter how small - can produce change.
Innovative
The Courage Curriculum was the first independently funded language arts curriculum in the Boston Public Schools. It has gained both national and international recognition for program excellence and is recognized nationwide as a model for non-profit-school collaboration. The program has been featured in several academic studies as well as nationwide educator newsletters.
